A married couple forced to sell their home after losing both their jobs were celebrating yesterday after scooping £1m on the EuroMillions draw.
Grandparents Wayne and Desiree Home, both 57, were forced to downsize after being made redundant more than 18 months ago.
The couple were shattered at being forced to give up their home in Tonbridge, Kent as it came just as Desiree had been fighting a battle against bowel cancer.
But the pair, now living in a smaller home in East Farleigh, near Maidstone, who have three children and four grandchildren, are looking forward to putting their feet up.
“It is great for the children and us,” said Desiree, now fully recovered from her illness. “It allows us to relax after such a difficult period.”
Wayne, an IT project manager, and Desiree married 34 years ago after meeting in the Royal Navy.
Desiree said: “I could not believe it. At first he said we had won £500,000.
“Then he told me we had actually won a million and I thought he was joking. I’ve been breaking out into fits of laughter for days.”
Wayne said: “We have gone from living day by day to relaxing day by day.”
